Summary

Saltwaterfish. Parrotfishes. Locally common on shallow reefs.  Males blue-green with an orange-pink stripe on pectoral fin, females dark gray with broad white stripe on side. Forms permanent harem groups composed of a single male and several smaller females.

- Redband Parrotfish Sparisoma aurofrenatum

Characteristics

Size: 30 to 60 cm, max 70 cm.
Colour: Males blue-green with an orange-pink stripe on pectoral fin, females dark gray with broad white stripe on side. Juvenile is brown with two white stripes along the side.
Shape: Big, sturdy fish, elongated and beaked mouth to scrape at the coral.

Habitat environment and ecology

Inhabits coral reefs.  Locally common on shallow reefs.  Males blue-green with an orange-pink stripe on pectoral fin, females dark gray with broad white stripe on side. Forms permanent harem groups composed of a single male and several smaller females.

Distribution range

BES-eilanden: St. Eustatius.
