Summary

Saltwater fish, drifts over tropical reef, in mated pairs, feeding on algae and coral. With a single long dorsal spine.

To be confused with

- Slender Filefish Monacathus tuckeri
(Usually have white reticulated pattern over body.)
- Scrawled Filefish Aluterus scriptus
(Covered with blue-green spots, irregular lines and black dots. Elongate body with long, broomlike tail.) - Orangespotted Filefish Cantherhines pullus

Characteristics

Size: 25 to 38 cm.
Colour: Snout grey, rear body orange, sometimes white spots all over.
Shape:
 Deep and compressed body, single long dorsal spine.


Habitat environment and ecology

Inhabits coral reefs. Drift over tropical reef, in mated pairs, feeding on algae and coral.

Distribution range

BES-eilanden: St. Eustatius.
